Montreal, Canada

Lande is a notforprofit organization that facilitates the repossession of vacant lands in Montréal by its citizens for permanent or temporary usage. It helps reveal the potential of these spaces in order to enhance the quality of life in Montréal’s central neighbourhoods. Lande offers an interactive map that allows users to identify and add pieces of vacant land and to demonstrate interest in participating in the transformation of a piece of land into a collective garden, a green space, or a recreational area. Lande forms groups of citizens and accompanies them in the process of transforming the vacant land via mobilization, project management, and negotiation. Lande believes that citizens can and should contribute to the transformation of their environment to create communities that are more livable and inclusive.
