Quartier des Spectacles – Montreal, Canada

The Megaphone project ran from September 4 to November 4, 2013 in the heart of Montreal’s Quartier des Spectacles. Conceived as the people’s soapbox, it would come to life at dusk as technology and the visual arts combined in an interactive outdoor installation that invited to citizens to come together and talk about the things they care about. The installation took their words and converted them, in real time, into striking visual shapes that were projected onto the front of the UQAM PrésidentKennedy building. Created by Moment Factory, directed by Étienne Paquette, and coproduced by the National Film Board of Canada and the Quartier des Spectacles, Megaphone made the UQAM building into a gigantic oral canvas on which ideas were displayed and shared. The project aimed to bring the art of public speaking back into the heart of the city and to give citizens the opportunity to use a unique vehicle of communication, to engage in speech, and to leave the imprint of theirvoices on the urban landscape.
